Plus-size clothing retailer Torrid closed over 150 “structurally unproductive” stores, according to its 2025 fourth quarter and fiscal year report.
The California-based women’s clothing brand was forced to shutter 151 locations nationwide, including 77 in the fourth quarter of last year.
Torrid CEO Lisa Harper said in the March 19 report that the closures were the result of “deliberate strategic decisions” required to get the business back on a stronger footing. Torrid Holdings Inc. also launched five sub-brands and “fundamentally restructured” its product assortment to support the endeavor, she added.
Torrid offers a diverse assortment of stylish apparel, intimates and accessories for the curvy woman. The brand opened its first store in April 2001.
While Torrid did not provide additional details about its strategy moving forward, including whether that would involve more closures, the company did note that “trends in Q4 and early Q1 give us confidence that the foundation we’ve built is beginning to take hold.”
“We enter 2026 with a strong operational foundation – optimized channels, product and pricing…,” Harper said in the report. “I am confident we are on the right path and encouraged by early signs of progress we’re seeing in the business.”
The closures come after Harper announced in January 2025 that Torrid would be nixing “up to 180 underperforming stores” that year. At the time, she said the move would allow the company to “reduce fixed costs and reinvest in areas that drive long-term growth.”
Last year, Torrid closed 151 stores, including 77 in the fourth quarter. The company’s total store count at the end of the third quarter was 560 stores, according to its third-quarter report.
