Walmart is set to temporarily close parts of some stores in April as they undergo renovations.
The retailer said it is closing the main sales floors, leaving only the pharmacies and gas stations open at the affected locations.
Only some Walmart Neighborhood Market stores — smaller format locations compared to the more widespread Walmart Supercenters — in six states will be impacted, Walmart said in a news release on its website.
Through the temporary closures, Walmart said it is testing a new rapid remodel process that will allow the company to condense the work into a four-week period rather than stretching it over several months.
Specific renovation updates will vary by location, but the grocery giant said the overall process is aimed at making “shopping faster, simpler, and more comfortable from start to finish.”
Which Walmart Stores Will Have Partial, Temporary Closures?
Some Walmart Neighborhood Market stores in the following states will be impacted by partial, temporary closures:
- Florida
- Oklahoma
- Texas
- Georgia
- South Carolina
- Louisiana
Walmart said the impacted stores were chosen in part because there are other Walmart locations nearby. USA TODAY has reached out to Walmart for more details.

“When the remodeled stores reopen, customers will walk into a brighter, more inviting space designed around how they shop today,” Walmart said.
